BIOTHANE® dog collars and leashes are durable and easy to maintain, providing a long-lasting solution for pet owners. To ensure the longevity of your gear, follow these care and maintenance instructions:
1. Regular Cleaning:
– Wipe down your gear regularly with a damp cloth or wet wipe to remove dirt, mud, and debris.
– For stubborn stains, use warm water, mild soap and a soft sponge. You also can dab with a small amount of rubbing alcohol.
2. Disinfecting:
BIOTHANE® recommends the following to disinfect our belts (choose ONE of the following):
A. 10% bleach solution (take the bleach out of the bottle, at 6.5% active ingredient, and dilute 1 part to 9 parts water)
B. Envirocide (follow directions on bottle).*
C. Cavicide (follow directions on bottle).*

3. Storage
– Store BIOTHANE® collars and leashes away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
– Hang them or store them flat to prevent from creasing or warping. If this occurs, it is easy to mold them back to its original shape.
4. Checking for Wear:
– Regularly inspect your Biothane products for signs of wear, such as fraying or cracking.
– Replace any items showing significant wear to ensure your dog’s safety.
5. Saltwater and Chemical Exposure:
– Rinse BIOTHANE® collars and leashes thoroughly after exposure to saltwater or chemicals.
– Salt and certain chemicals can affect the integrity of the material over time
– Insect repellents may cause staining or pitting on TPU/PVC coated belts and leather products. Many insect repellents use DEET as an active ingredient which will pit/stain Polyurethane products. When it is necessary to use a repellent which uses DEET, we suggest an embossed Granite belt as the most durable alternative. Another alternative would be to use an all-natural/organic insect repellent. Please contact us directly if you require a different type of BIOTHANE®.
6. Proper Sizing:
– Ensure that the collar is properly sized to avoid unnecessary stress on the material.
– Adjust the fit as your dog grows to maintain comfort and effectiveness.
7. Keep Away from Chewing:
– While Biothane is resistant to chewing, it’s best to discourage your dog from chewing on the collar or leash to prevent damage.
8. Customization Considerations:
– If your Biothane product has personalized engravings, avoid using abrasive materials that may scratch the surface.
